Don’t Wait: Hidden Hurdles to ISO 9001:2015 Transition
All ISO 9001:2008 certifications will expire on September 22, 2018, which means organizations must have registered to ISO 9001:2015 by that date. The effective deadline for ISO 9001:2015 implementation is, however, much earlier because of two prerequisites for the registration audit: (1) an internal audit to the new standard and (2) a management review. The organization will also need objective evidence of how it implements other new provisions including actions to address risks and opportunities, and retention and accessibility of organizational knowledge.
The takeaway is that the organization will need time to not only modify its quality management system to meet the new requirements—and this is not a major task for an organization with an effective ISO 9001:2008 system—but also to exercise the system and demonstrate its effectiveness. An early start will therefore ensure that the organization can meet the September 2018 deadline with plenty of time to spare.
