Quality Methodologies Comparison & Integrating ISO 9001 with Lean Six Sigma is Beneficial

The main thrust of QMS is in defining the processes, which will result in the production of quality products and services, rather than in detecting defective products or services after they have been produced. Of All QMS regimes, the ISO 9000 family is the most widely implemented worldwide.
Lean Six Sigma helps in identifying the cause of a problem and implement a fix based on facts, rather than assumptions. This produces improved results and success; whereas ISO 9001 uses Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) model to all processes, and also to the entire system to implement change leading to process improvement.
The above statements show that ISO 9001 and Lean Six Sigma serve two different purposes. ISO 9001 is a system for managing quality, whereas Lean Six Sigma is a methodology for process improvement.
Organizations can use Lean Six Sigma tools to define a problem, measure the processes, analyze the results, improve the processes, and then use ISO 9001 to control and continually improve these processes. Thus, combining these two methods will ensure that Lean Six Sigma is part of a continually improving QMS. This marriage is now stress-free as the new 2015 version of ISO 9001 will provide any organization with the opportunity to merge lean practices into the new QMS; making both systems more effective and driving out the system waste that is inherent in multiple systems with similar purposes.
