Penny Ouellette is the Accreditation and Program Director for Orion Registrar in Arvada, Colorado. Orion Registrar is an accredited, international certification body providing audits to more than 18 management system and product certification standards.
Penny is also the Task Force Chair for the Auditor Apprenticeship Program for the Independent Association of Accredited Registrars (IAAR). She has been a Board Member of the IAAR since 2009 and a Chair of the IAAR Auditor Apprenticeship Program since its inception in 2013.
Penny’s work for Orion includes directing Orion’s accreditation for its many standards, participating in the development of ANSI standards, acting on the Board of the IAAR, developing and optimizing training, processes and procedures for 1st, 2nd and 3rd party audits to Orion’s numerous management system and product certification standards, managing Orion’s internal audit and corrective action programs, conducting domestic and international 1st, 2nd and 3rd party audits, and facilitating Orion’s Committee to Safeguard Impartiality.
Penny’s role as Chair of the IAAR Apprenticeship Program has included working with applicable stakeholders to develop the program’s structure, processes, and procedures, identify key competencies and academic coursework, and provide oversite for the training of host certification bodies. It has also involved recruitment of apprentices and hosts, creation of grant proposals, as well as spreading the word about the program to stakeholders such as this audience.
Penny’s previous roles have included in metallurgical engineering, quality engineering and quality management system auditing in the manufacturing, foundry, and mining industries. Penny holds a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. She enjoys reading, travelling, spending time with her family and friends, and wandering around in the mountains.
