ISO 9001:2015 emphasizes using the process approach to internal auditing, which allows organizations to obtain more value from their audits than the previous compliance based approach. This presentation will discuss how to apply risk-based thinking to audit planning, focusing on process effectiveness instead of compliance during the audit performance, and using audit results to drive organizational improvement. Specific tools and examples will be shared for each stage in the process.
The following topics will be presented: comparison of traditional compliance based internal auditing vs. process based “value added” internal auditing; risk based thinking and how it applies to the audit program; audit planning including internal audit strategies, developing an audit schedule, and defining the audit scope and objectives; audit preparation, including generating a process based audit checklist and sampling plan; audit performance; and audit reporting and closure.
