Root cause and corrective action is a vital feature of the ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality management systems; for it provides a process to achieve root cause of non-conformances to put in place effective corrective actions which ensure full containment and prevents recurrence.

Over many years as a third-party auditor, consultant and trainer I have observed that companies do not fully understand the breath and scope of the RCCA process. Their failure reports indicate that they do not achieve root cause, their corrective actions are not well defined nor effective, and their corrective action report documentation is incomplete. They do not see the linkage between open investigations and their risk management system.

This presentation will explain what is meant by root cause and corrective action, its benefits to the company, related terminology, provides a simple method to drill down to root cause, how to specify the cut-in point of effective corrective actions, how non-conformances affect the companies risk management system and how to mitigate these risks. Examples will be provided in addition to audience interaction.
